Rebecca, aka Rebecca Lee Sorensen, aka “Beckie”, was born on August 2, 1952, and was raised in Seattle/Bellevue. She attended Interlake High School and was part of the class of 1970. She has one daughter, Amanda Lane Sorensen, born August 9, 1979, in Olympia, WA. Amanda is Beckie’s pride and joy.
After becoming a mother, Beckie returned to college, first in the Nursing Program at Olympic College, while she and Amanda lived in Allyn, WA. She later transferred to Evergreen State College, where she proudly earned a Bachelor’s Degree - the first in her family to graduate college.
As a young, single mother, she created the organization ASK - Advocates for Support for Kids - an information and referral service for parents struggling to collect owed child support. Her efforts through this program served to help change laws regarding how child support is collected in the state of Washington. She went on to work in Social Services for many years, helping many people in the Tacoma area through counseling and educational services.
Beckie enjoyed visiting art galleries and collecting art. She loved to laugh and have a good time with friends and her family. She was a loyal friend. She will be missed.
Sadly, Beckie passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 12, 2026. She was 73 years old. She requested that there be no services or memorial, and suggested that if anyone wished to memorialize her life, to make a donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Her obituary can be found here.
